Mount Zion on 19th — a new affordable senior housing project sponsored by Mount Zion Housing Development

This past year the Seattle Office of Housing was proud to invest in Mount Zion on 19th — a new affordable senior housing project sponsored by Mount Zion Housing Development, the housing arm of Seattle’s second-oldest Black church with roots dating back to 1886. The building’s 62 new apartments, the building will serve for seniors.

Located on 19th Ave E., just north of Madison, this new building’s 62 apartments will be in the heart of Seattle’s Central District — a community where Black families have experienced exceptional displacement. These homes will also be just a stone’s throw from historic Mount Zion Baptist Church and McKinney Manor, another Mount Zion senior housing property that bears the name of the esteemed civil rights leader the Rev. Samuel B. McKinney, pastor of the church for four decades.  Reflecting Mount Zion’s deep community roots, the building’s design will evoke the heritage of this historically African American community – as well as so many of the elders who will soon call it home.  To learn more, check out what Converge Media has to say about the project here (1:02 minute mark).
