Mayor Durkan Signs Emergency Order to Halt Residential Evictions

(March 14, 2020) – Mayor Jenny A. Durkan signed an emergency order to put into place a temporary moratorium on residential evictions, which will keep Seattle families from losing their homes as a result of impacts from the pandemic. The temporary moratorium will begin immediately in the City of Seattle for any residential eviction action related to the non-payment of rent. Tenants are required to continue paying their rent if they are able and should work with their landlords on payment plans if they are experiencing financial hardship.

Mayor Durkan Announces $5 Million in Grocery Vouchers for Families Impacted by COVID-19

(March 16, 2020) – Mayor Jenny A. Durkan announced today that the City of Seattle will provide $5 million in grocery vouchers to help families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The new grocery voucher program will provide 6,250 families $800 in vouchers to purchase food, cleaning supplies, and other household goods at any Safeway store in Washington state.
